SOCIOCULTURAL AND SOCIOECONOMIC IMPACT ANALYSES

Albuquerque, New Mexico: Socioeconomic Impact Analysis of Yellowhouse Dam and Reservoir on the Zuni Indian Reservation. In a study completed for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Albuquerque, the consultant investigated sociocultural and socioeconomic impact on the Zuni Nation of the proposed Yellowhouse Dam and Reservoir which was in a development stage in Zuni, New Mexico. The study required maintenance of a close working relationship with the Tribal Council as well as BIA personnel at Zuni and in Albuquerque to assure that all social, cultural and economic issues of concern to the Tribe-- as well as the government -- were adequately defined, considered and evaluated during the course of the analysis. Among the factors considered in the analysis were the local economy and employment profile, physical and governmental infrastructure, demographic characteristics and a social needs assessment (social services, health care).

Arizona: 208 Study. Socioeconomic impact analysis was completed for the Maricopa Association of governments relating to the selection of 208 conventional wastewater treatment and land application site(s) in northeast, southeast, eastern and central portions of the State of Arizona. Socioeconomic impacts associated with alternative siting plans were assessed together with implied fiscal impacts on surrounding communities.

Douglas, Wyoming: Socioeconomic and Fiscal Impact Analysis of Proposed Coal Gasification Facility. TNDG prepared the socioeconomic impact analyses for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company's proposed coal gasification facility near Douglas, Wyoming. TNDG 's analysis explored a range of major issues involving sudden growth in small communities, including analysis of key shortages in labor, housing, and secondary or service industries. Through these investigations a number of mitigation strategies were developed which may have application in a number of related instances where immigration of new population has severely impacted the provision of vital municipal services.

Fort McDowell Indian Reservation, Arizona: Socioeconomic Impact of the Orme Dam on the Fort McDowell Reservation. This assignment included an overview of the potential impact to the water related user demand under two assumptions: (1) construction of Orme Dam and (2) free flowing stream and the subsequent benefit to the Tribe under each alternative. This project involved determining the potential revenue stream generated by various recreational activities (boating, fishing, camping and related concessionaire participation) and the subsequent return to the Yavapai Tribe under each alternative. The review also included the potential employment possibilities for tribal members generated by the recreational activities associated with each alternative.
